4 day Gorillas of Rwanda Tracking

Gorilla trekking in the virungas is a magnificent life experience that is sought after all over the world. On this safari, you will meet the pleasant people of Rwanda, who are proud to show off one of the world’s most remarkable countries, rich in wildlife. Join our skilled trackers as they ascend the volcanoes in search of the majestic gorillas. There is so much to see, including the breathtaking views of Rwanda’s five volcanoes, which have earned the country the nickname “The Land of a Thousand Hills.”

Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali

When you arrive in Kigali, our guest representative and the naturalist driver/guide will assist you in transferring your luggage to the waiting safari vehicle and drive to your hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park by road

Early in the morning, after a full breakfast, you’ll check out and go on a half-day Kigali city tour. Visits to Camp Belgium and the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre are highlights. Later, you’ll drive to your host property, which is located at the foot of the picturesque volcanic mountains of Sabyinyo and Bisoke, which are both parts of the Volcanoes National Park. It takes about 3 hours to drive through rural Rwanda on this picturesque route. After a relaxed lunch, check in at your host property. Later, you’ll join your naturalist driver guide for a sunset drive to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, where you’ll watch the sunset over Rwanda’s mystical volcanic mountains before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park: Gorilla Tracking

Rwandan gorilla trekking is a world-renowned wildlife experience, and properly so. Tourists can spend up to an hour with gorillas in Rwanda, and get within five feet of one. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Experts estimate that only 900 mountain gorillas remain, with Rwanda accounting for one-third of them. Return to the lodge for lunch after descending the volcanoes. The Iby’iwacu cultural village experience is featured on the show. The Iby’iwacu cultural village is 45 minutes from your host house and is a worthwhile cultural excursion to add to your itinerary. Ex-poachers were persuaded by the village to abandon poaching and instead perform for guests. Discover the traditional home of a local king, witness a real medicine man manufacture herbal concoctions, try your hand at bow and arrow shooting, and enjoy cultural dances and drumming performed by locals while visiting the hamlet.

Day 4: Returning to Kigali

Breakfast and check out to meet your naturalist driver guide and journey back to Kigali for your onward flight – en route, you will visit the Dian Fossey museum in Karisimbi. The drive back to Kigali International Airport takes around 3 hours, including lovely pauses along the way. Please provide your return flight time so that you may check in on time. Please note that check-in for foreign flights must be completed two hours prior to the flight’s departure. For your convenience, there is a small café, a sitting space, and many duty-free stores in the departure hall (after check-in).
