12 Day Uganda Safari Tour of Pearl of Africa

Highlights

This Uganda safari lasts 12 days and begins and concludes in Kampala. The trip takes you to western Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is home to about 340 mountain gorillas, making it home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The safari also includes a visit to Murchison Falls National Area, which is known for its diverse wildlife and boat excursions. Animal species found in this park include lions, elephants, bushbucks, antelopes, kobs, birds, and many others. This trip brings you to the residence of Queen Elizabeth.

Itenary

Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

    After breakfast at your accommodation in Kampala or Entebbe, travel to Murchison Falls through Luwero town, stopping at the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see the black and white rhinos. This sanctuary was created primarily to safeguard these rhinos from poachers and other threats.Stop for lunch in Masindi at any hotel before proceeding to Murchison Falls National Park and hiking to the top of the falls for spectacular views of the waterfalls. You will be able to see the Nile River, the world’s longest river, which is forced through a narrow 7-meter-wide gap and flows 43 meters down, making it incredibly lovely to the onlookers. Murchison Falls National Park is one of Uganda’s largest national parks, covering 3840 square kilometers. The park contains a diverse range of wildlife and plants, including swampland, savannah, and riparian woodlands.

Day 2 : Game drive in the morning and a boat excursion in the afternoon.

    Enjoy your breakfast at your accommodation before heading out on a game drive in search of animals. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of animals, including giraffes, lions, elephants, buffaloes, birds, and many others. The guide will return you to the lodge, where you will have lunch before embarking on a Nile River boat excursion. This boat will allow you to get up close and personal with the water wildlife, including over 4000 hippos and Nile crocodiles. The Nile features a diverse birdlife that can be observed while on a boat ride, including bee-eaters, colorful kingfishers, shoebill storks, grey-throated, and yellow-billed birds.

Day 3 : Transfer to Kibale National Park.

    After breakfast, depart early from Murchison Falls National Park, passing over the Lake Albert escarpments, which provide excellent views of this gorgeous lake. After stopping for lunch in Hoima at any hotel, continue driving passing through a number of traditional villages, where you may watch locals working in the fields. Take some shots of the undulating hills that are covered in traditional cash crops. You will also love Fort Portal, which is located in the Rwenzori Mountains’ foothills and is surrounded by tea plantations.Around 13 primate species have been identified in this woodland, with chimpanzees being the most commonly observed. Golden monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and bird species are among the other primate species. The park is also next to the Bigodi Wetland, which is managed and owned by the local community and is known for primate and bird viewing.

Day 4 : Chimpanzee hiking in Kibale Forest and a visit to Bigodi Wetland.

    Get up early and drive to Kanyanchu by 8:00 a.m. to begin your Kibale forest chimpanzee excursion. Chimpanzees are considered the closest living relatives of humans since they share 98 percent of their DNA with humans. You will see many other primate and animal species while searching for these beautiful chimps, including LHoests Monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked Mangabeys, pottos, bush babies, and many bird species, including the little greenbul, yellow spotted victor, rumped tinker bird, crowned eagle, green breasted pitta, and black bee spotted eagle.This National Park has an average elevation of 3,300 feet and is a rain forest with multiple chimp colonies. Each troop of chimps has over 100 with a comprehensive social structure. Adult males rule their groupings and are constantly ready to defend the entire community.

Day 5 : Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

    After breakfast, you will go for a walk along the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, where you will be able to see the great peak of this moon mountain. Continue your transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park after the trek; this park is only 3 hours distant from Kibale National Park. This national park is well-known for its diverse fauna and primate species. This well-known conservation area is bordered on the southwest by Lake Edward and on the northeast by Lake George. Impalas, kobs, forest hogs, elephants, buffaloes, tree-climbing lions, and cape buffaloes are among the wildlife species found in this park, which was named after Queen Elizabeth the second.This national park also contains a number of volcanic calderas that are home to a large number of flamingos during different seasons. When you arrive at the park, check in and get ready to go on a game drive around the grounds. Dinner and a night in.

Day 6 : Queensland game drive and afternoon boat cruise

    Early in the morning, after breakfast, go on a morning game drive to see elephants, elands, antelopes, buffaloes, and lions, among other animals. Later return to the lodge, relax and have lunch. During the afternoon set out for boat cruise on the Kazinga channel where you will see various numbers of animals like crocodiles, hippos, waterbucks, buffaloes, as well as birds like the storks, Kingfishers among others.

Day 7 : A nature walk within Maramagambo Forest & an afternoon game drive.

    Wake up so early and proceed for a walk through the Maramagambo forest which is one of the second largest forests in Uganda. This forest is a habitat for a number of primates and many forest dwellers. The forest harbors many wildlife species including; the butterflies, birds, bats and the chimpanzees which are found in Kyambura Gorge within the forest. This walk will also take you to the volcanic caves which are home to thousands of bat species as well as the predator pythons. These pythons prey on the bats which leave within the cave. The walk will expose you to the blue lake Kimeranjojo which swallowed an elephant and got its name! More so, this walk will take you to the Crater Lake and the Kyambura gorge where the chimpanzees are trekked from. Later in the afternoon after enjoying your lunch, you will proceed for the game drive through the Ishasha sector where you will be able to view the tree-climbing lions and many other animal species including the birds, buffalos, elephants, kobs.

Day 8 : Depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

    After breakfast embark Bwindi forest home to Mountain gorillas covering an area of 331 sq km. Pass through the Ishasha sector where you will take pleasure in watching tree-climbing lions, also enjoy various spectacular landscapes on your way. Arrive in the park and have a guided nature walk, have dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge of your choice.

Day 9 : Gorilla trekking -Bwindi impenetrable national park.

    On this day you will have a great time meeting with the Mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest. After a tasty breakfast, your guide will pick you up from the lodge, head for briefing and later enjoy the fullness of the mist forest as you see the gentle giants and other wildlife species like buffaloes, elephants, monkeys, butterflies, and different bird species. Only 1 hour is permitted to you with the gorillas. Trekking takes about 1hour to 8 hours based on location of these gentle giants. After the trek, in the evening you could go for a guided nature walk or a community visit.

Day 10 : Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park.

    Pick up by your guide and transfers you to Lake Mburo National Park, which is among Uganda’s smallest savannah national parks. It was upgraded as a national park in 1983 covering an area of 371 sq km and home to over 332 species of birds, animals like buffaloes, Oribis, Kobs, warthogs, zebras among others. Upon arrival, you will check-in at the lodge, later heads for a guided nature walk through the park. Have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 11 : Game drive and an afternoon boat cruise.

    In the morning have breakfast at your lodge, thereafter set out for a game drive through the park where your eyes will be fed with amazing sights and wildlife such as Impalas, Kobs, antelopes, also different bird species. After, head back to your lodge for lunch with preparation for an unforgettable experience on the boat ride along the lake. Still, a lot of animals will be seen like crocodiles and hippos among others.

Day 12 : Return to Kampala/Entebbe.

    After an early breakfast, have a game drive through the park as you embark on your journey back to Kampala. Have lunch en route with a stopover around the equator to have experimented and taken enough photos. Later arrive in Kampala in the evening or a drop off at the Airport in Kampala just in case you have a flight on that day.
